Von Janet hat man gar nichts mehr gehört, dabei hätte sie doch eine f******* super-group mit Staff Sergeant Barry Sadler (The Ballad of the Green Berets) gründen können (dem übrigens mit einem f******* Wikipedia-Eintrag gehuldigt wird: Barry hatte früh angefangen, patriotische Songs über das Leben in der Armee zu schreiben. Eins davon war ein Lied über seine Einheit, die Green Berets, die sich durch ihre Härte und Brutalität in Vietnam einen gewissen Ruf geschaffen hatte.
Diesem gewissen Ruf folgend erschoss er 1978 im Streit um eine Frau den Country-Sänger Lee Emerson, was ihm eine mehrjährige Gefängnisstrafe einbrachte. In den 1980er Jahren arbeitete er als militärischer Ausbilder in Guatemala. Dort erhielt er 1988 einen Kopfschuss ....). Da war Janet sicherlich sehr traurig.
(Schöne Formulierung übrigens: Kopfschuss erhalten --- Kopfschuss erhalten, Sergeant? - Yes, Sir! - Wegtreten, Sergeant! - Danke, Sir ... Urrgh, ächz, äggnnn ...)

Gelungenes Video zu einem immer noch interessanten Song von Carmen, einer siebziger Spanish-Ethno-Prog-Rock-Band. Aufmerksam wurde ich auf die Band wegen des Covers der LP, das eine gewisse Ähnlichkeit mit einer von mir damals bevorzugten Zigarettenmarke aufweist. - Soviel zu Markenaffinitäten (Eine letzte Zigarette!)

Vor einem Jahr schrieb ich hier: Jon Lord ist am 9. Juni 70 Jahre alt geworden.
Am 9. August hat er auf seiner Website geschrieben:

I would like all my friends, followers, fans and fellow travelers to know that I am fighting cancer and will therefore be taking a break from performing while getting the treatment and cure.
I shall of course be continuing to write music – in my world it just has to be part of the therapy – and I fully expect to be back in good shape next year.

Gestern nun ist Jon Lord gestorben.



Irgendwie sind einem Menschen wie Jon Lord, die man lange kennt (Grugahalle Essen 1969!!) und natürlich überhaupt nicht kennt, doch nahe, weil man sie so lange kennt und weil sie einem Momente ermöglicht haben, in denen sich die eigene Biografie zu starken Erinnerungsbildern verdichtet, die nicht verloren gegangen sind, - auch wenn man Deep Purple Mk. ... nicht mehr folgen mochte ...
Ich könnte mir vorstellen, dass ich auch auf music as part of the therapy setzen würde (nach allem, was ich an Scheitern anderer Therapien miterleben musste ...); - auch wenn diese nun auch gescheitert ist ...

Jon Lord releases new live album titled simply LIVE.

Recorded in Bucharest, Romania in 2009 with a full symphony orchestra, the album includes a glorious selection of orchestral pieces representing Jon Lord’s touring repetoire all over the world in recent years.

From Pictured Within (voted everybody’s no. 1 favourite Jon Lord track on this website) over infectious The Telemann Experiment; the two Sarabande favourites Bouree and Gigue to the female voice delights Wait a While and The Sun Will Shine Again featuring Kasia Łaska.

Steve Balsamo handles male vocals throughout, and the album also includes three completely reworked Deep Purple classics with full orchestral arrangement by Jon Lord; Pictures of Home, Soldier of Fortune and an immense Child in Time.

The Rousse Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by Nayden Tadorov with Darin Vasilev (guitar), Ivaylo Zvezdomirov (bass) and Venko Poromanski (drums) completing the line-up.

Ein tolles Photo: Ray Charles smoking ...
... und ein Hinweis auf mein Lieblingslied von Jerome Kern "Just the Way You Look Tonight" - in einer sehr schönen Interpretation von Ray Charles: Live im Pariser Olympia im Jahre 2000. Die Geschichte dazu:
This concert was supposed to be a very emotional moment for Ray Charles. It was his 70th birthday, it was his first tour in this new millenium. This night, Ray Charles was supposed to play with his big band and his raelettes but due to an air traffic controllers lightning strike in Lisbon, his famous Big Band and The raelettes were stuck at the airport. So, the day of the concert, Ray arrived in Paris with a drummer, a guitar player and a bass player. They worked out a new show, set list and arrangements in the hotel room and came on stage late.

Saturday Club was an influential BBC radio programme in Britain, broadcast on the Light Programme and later Radio 1 between 1957 and 1969. It was one of the earliest - and for several years almost the only - radio programme in the country to broadcast pop music. For most of its history it was presented by Brian Matthew. Der Saturday Club wurde auch von BFBS ausgestrahlt, so dass die jungen Hörer der besetzten Gebiete die Beat-Bands live hören konnten (was wiederum daran lag, dass die BBC nur begrenzt Schallpaltten spielen durfte und daher eigene Aufnahmen machte - aus heutiger Sicht ein Segen des restriktiven Copyrights!!). So konnten Sie hier diese wunderbare Live-Version von "I'm Alive" von The Hollies hören!
